Seed Model Campuses
True district change happens when we create learning structures and systems that cross campus boundaries and encourage all-district learning and communities of practice. The purpose of the Seed Model Campus Cohort is to support campuses throughout Austin ISD in their journey of goal-oriented, intentional, campus-wide SEL integration into school culture and systems.
About the Process
In order to engage in the process, all participants are asked to submit a proposal, which includes a S.M.A.R.T.I.E. goal around one of four SEL critical practice areas identified as identified by the CASEL roadmap:
- Take time to cultivate and deepen relationships, build partnerships, and plan for SEL.
- Design opportunities where adults can connect, heal, and build their capacity to support students.
- Create safe, supportive, and equitable learning environments that promote all students’ social and emotional development.
- Use data as an opportunity to share power, deepen relationships, and continuously improve support for students, families, and staff.
This designation is given to schools which effectively demonstrate the process of continual social and emotional growth and for each successive year they choose to engage in continued documentation of their SEL progress and goal-setting.
Austin ISD's Seed Model Campus Cohort program has grown from 19 campuses who engaged in the process during the inaugural 2017-18 school year to over 80 campuses this year!
Austin ISD is proud to be recognized as a leader in urban education and one of the first districts in the nation to commit to the development of the whole child by incorporating social and emotional learning.
