iPad Home Screen Schedule Communication
Austin ISD iPads have two layouts for the home screen, which change by day and time. There is a “school layout” and a “home layout.”
Activated from 7 a.m.–4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
This is the layout that has been on the iPads for the past couple of weeks.
The layout of the apps is the same for all iPads across the District. This lets teachers easily reference the location of a desired app. (For example:, “Click the second app in the first row.”)
Families are NOT able to delete or rearrange apps during the “school layout” hours.
Activated during all other hours.
The iPad will return back to the family’s customized iPad organization. This lets families organize the apps in a way that makes the most sense to them.
Families WILL be able to delete unwanted apps and rearrange apps during the “home layout” hours. To delete or organize apps, press and hold an app icon.
Please note: The iPads have 32GB of storage, approximately 13GB of which is required for District configurations. Families who run out of storage should delete apps and videos during “home layout” hours.

Updated Wi-Fi Bus Service Times
Wi-Fi buses are available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is to accommodate time for transporting students as we begin to phase-in on-campus learning.
AISD is strategically positioning these buses at apartments and neighborhoods where they can make the biggest impact. AISD students can access free Wi-Fi on their school devices. For the most current locations and times, please see the Austin ISD School Bus WiFI Map.
If your student is in need of a Wi-Fi hotspot for internet access, please contact your school or use the form in Parent Cloud to request technology. We encourage families to provide this information as soon as possible so that students can receive individual technology support.
Withdrawing or Transferring Students
- All students transferring to a different Austin ISD school: All other students moving from one Austin ISD school to another should keep their device.
- All students withdrawing from Austin ISD: Students leaving the district must turn in their Chromebook or iPad at their school.
NEW Policy for Device Management/Drop-off Locations
Student Devices: Students may drop off devices, which need to be returned or receive maintenance, at any AISD campus during operating hours. This includes devices through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program.
Students should bring:
- the computer
- the charger (if they have one) and
- a piece of paper with
- the student’s full legal name and ID number and
- a description of the problem (e.g. “won’t turn on”, “cracked screen”).
Each campus has a Let’s Talk curbside text number to allow contactless delivery.
The computer being dropped off will not be returned to the student. Replacement devices are available based on supplies each day.
Teacher and Team Member Devices: Teachers and team members can create a ServiceNow ticket for devices with broken hardware in need of repair. The warranty repair company will contact staff members to schedule a time to meet at a nearby campus to complete the repairs.
