Food Service Star: Yara Caballero
January 27, 2017
We are excited to announce Yara Caballero, Food Production Specialist IV at Houston Elementary School as the latest Food Service Star.
Food Service Star recognizes employees who go above and beyond their daily job requirements to ensure their kitchen is providing nutritious, appetizing meals that promote health, well-being and learning.
Yara has been with Austin ISD for 10 years. Known for being an outstanding cook, Yara is dedicated to expanding her knowledge of school nutrition. Yara is great at multitasking, time management and is always willing to take on more responsibilities.
With the help of Yara’s hard work, the Houston café team successfully launched Breakfast in the Classroom at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. Since moving breakfast from the cafeteria to the classroom, the team has increased student participation by 45%, serving over 520 healthy breakfast meals each day.
When asked what she enjoys best about her job, Yara says it is cooking and interacting with the students. Yara’s favorite school lunch is the vegan lentil chili Frito pie. Outside of work, Yara loves cooking for family and friends. The best advice that Yara has ever received is “Smile, it makes people around you happy!”
Congratulations Yara on being the latest Austin ISD Food Service Star!
