AISD Food Service Star: Lorrie Thomas
October 21, 2016
We are excited to announce Lorrie Thomas, Café Manager at Guerrero-Thompson Elementary School as this week’s Food Service Star.
Food Service Star recognizes employees who go above and beyond their daily job requirements to ensure their kitchen is providing nutritious, appetizing meals that promote health, well-being and learning.
Lorrie has been with Austin ISD for 5 years. Under Lorrie’s leadership, the Guerrero-Thompson Elementary café team is serving over 1,100 meals each day. Since launching Breakfast in the Classroom at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, the team has helped to grow student breakfast participation from 42% to 80%.
When asked what she enjoys best about her job, Lorrie says it is the student’s responses, when they say they love the food that is being served to them. Lorrie’s favorite school lunch is the made to order salad bar. Outside of work, Lorrie loves spending time with her grandkids. The best advice that Lorrie has ever received is “Put God First! Everything else will fall into place.”
Congratulations Lorrie on being this week’s Austin ISD Food Service Star!
