Austin ISD Closes for MLK Day on Jan. 16, Celebrates Holiday on Jan. 18

All Austin ISD offices and schools will be closed Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The district will resume regular business and school hours Tuesday, and will hold its annual MLK Day celebration Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the CAC Board Auditorium.

This year’s theme is Equity and Inclusivity, with a keynote address from UT professor Peniel Joseph. Joseph is the founder of the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at the UT Austin’s LBJ School of Public Affairs.

Attendees will also enjoy musical performances from Covington Middle School’s Jazz Band and the Sadler Means Young Women’s Leadership Academy Choral Ensemble, along with spoken word performances from students at Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy and Barbara Jordan Elementary School.
