News from Dr. Cruz: Professional Pathways for Teachers
Professional Pathways for Teachers had a banner first year! PPfT was developed over the last three years from a collaboration among Austin ISD, Education Austin and the American Federation of Teachers. The program blends appraisal, compensation and professional development for AISD teachers.
We had an overwhelmingly positive response to the initial opt-in for PPfT compensation, with nearly 1,200 teachers participating. We've had equally strong interest as we move into phase two, when 1,700 more teachers will be welcomed into the compensation portion of the program.
In this next phase of PPfT, we'll also offer leadership pathways including literacy and transformative technology.
These focus areas are key to taking learning to the next level. Literacy builds a foundation for student learning and addresses achievement gaps, and transformative technology gives students opportunities for accelerated and enhanced learning. Ultimately, these leadership pathways will support teachers as they prepare students for college, career and life.
In February, we will offer another opt-in period for the PPfT compensation system so be on the lookout for an email with more information. If you have questions in the meantime, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 512-414-9562.
Thank you to our office of educator quality for leading the PPfT charge and to our amazing teachers for your dedication to our students and district!
