You may have heard about a new A–F rating system for Texas schools. I want to share some information about the new system so you are aware of how our district and schools will be measured by the state beginning in 2018.
In December or early January, “what if?” ratings for campuses and districts will be released for domains 1–4 (see domains below). These ratings will be based on data from the 2015–16 school year. They are not official ratings and do not replace the ratings campuses received this year. Instead, they will be used as a sample to develop the final A–F rating system. Official A–F ratings for Texas school districts and campuses will be released in August 2018.
The official A–F ratings will be based on the following five domains:
- Student Achievement
- Student Progress
- Closing Performance Gaps
- Postsecondary Readiness
- Community and Student Engagement
The ratings will be weighted as follows: 55 percent of the A–F rating will be based on the first three domains, which come from STAAR exam results; 35 percent will come from indicators such as graduation rates and advanced coursework; 10 percent will be based on community and student engagement. Most of the A–F ratings are derived from STAAR results—which is just one measure of student performance. At Austin ISD, we believe in educating the whole child. Throughout our district, we focus on academic performance, creative learning, cultural proficiency and inclusiveness, physical and mental wellness, Social and Emotional Learning, standards-based instruction and teacher empowerment. We will continue to nurture engaging learning environments where all students can demonstrate achievement in many different ways.

Puede ser que ustedes hayan escuchado sobre el nuevo sistema de clasificación A-F para las escuelas de Texas. Quiero darles información sobre el nuevo sistema para que conozcan como el estado evaluará nuestro distrito y escuelas a partir de 2018.
Para diciembre o inicios de enero, las clasificaciones para las escuelas y distritos "¿qué pasaría si?" se publicarán para las competencias 1-4 (vea las competencias abajo). Estas clasificaciones se basarán en los datos del año escolar 2015-2016. No son clasificaciones oficiales y no reemplazan las clasificaciones que las escuelas recibieron este año. Sino que, se usarán como muestras para desarrollar el sistema final de clasificación A-F. Las clasificaciones oficiales A-F para los distritos y escuelas de Texas se publicarán en agosto de 2018.
La clasificación de A-F se basa en cinco competencias:
- Rendimiento del estudiante

- Cierre de brechas del desempeño
- Preparación para la educación superior
- Participación estudiantil y comunitaria
Las clasificaciones se ponderan de la siguiente forma: el 55 por ciento de la clasificación A-F se basará en las primeras tres competencias las cuales se obtienen de los resultados de las pruebas STAAR; el 35 por ciento corresponde a los indicadores tales como las tasas de graduación y trabajo de clases avanzado; el 10 por ciento se basará en participación estudiantil y comunitaria. La mayoría de las clasificaciones A-F se derivan de los resultados de la prueba STAAR - que es solamente una de las medidas de desempeño del estudiante. En el Austin ISD, creemos en educar al niño en su totalidad. En todo el distrito nos enfocamos en el desempeño académico, el aprendizaje creativo, capacidad de incluir y entender otras culturas, bienestar mental y físico, Aprendizaje social y emocional, instrucción basada en estándares y fortalecimiento de los maestros. Continuaremos fomentado los ambientes de aprendizaje participativo donde todos los estudiantes puedan demostrar su rendimiento de diferentes maneras.
