News from Dr. Cruz: Scorecard 2015–16
The results of the Austin ISD 2015–16 scorecard are in, and there is strong forward momentum in our district. We have achieved significant growth over years past and are well poised to continue great work.
While there are many indicators on the scorecard, they all share one focus: student achievement.
- Our graduation rate is at an all-time high of 89.7 percent. This is especially impressive given that in the class of 2008 we had some schools with graduation rates around 50 percent and a district graduation rate of 74.3 percent.
- Attendance is the highest it's been in 22 years at 95.4 percent. Attendance is the first step to engaged learning and definitely something to celebrate.
- Students are eager to continue their education—89 percent of high school students completed college applications.
- The number of discretionary removals is down to 126. This is critical to our pursuit of equity and closing achievement gaps, and we've made extraordinary steps in reducing the number from 240 last year.
There are endless moving parts at AISD, and keeping a clear focus on our goals will help us support students in achieving their best.
As I visit with staff on campuses and our supporting sites, I'm always impressed with your ability to execute daily tasks while keeping the big picture as your compass.
Thank you for always putting students at the center of your work.
