News from Dr. Cruz: Building an #AISDFuture
Austin ISD has 130 schools throughout 230 square miles of Central Texas. Our schools are more than just buildings. They are learning environments that support our students and your work; they support our agile and responsive district.
We want all of our facilities to inspire student success and creative teaching. Right now, the average age of an AISD facility is 40 years old. Some of our schools are over-enrolled and some are under-enrolled. Some have state-of-the-art technological and environmental features and some are in need of repair. With different needs in every school community, we must be thoughtful when envisioning the future of AISD and what facilities will be needed to support that vision.
Possible updates to modernize our facilities are being addressed through the development of a Facility Master Plan. Click here to watch a video about the FMP, available in English and Spanish. The guiding principles of the FMP were established by our board of trustees, and the plan is being developed based on recommendations from the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee.
As an AISD team member, you have a unique and valuable perspective on our district's facilities. I want to hear your voice and I want to ensure your school communities are aware of this process. You can attend a community meetingthis fall, request that a team member present at a community meeting, cheer at the AISD Future Cup soccer tournament and join the conversation on social media by using #AISDFuture.
While our facilities set the tone for education, you create the positive environment. Thank you for nurturing a welcoming space in our classrooms, hallways and offices and making our students and families feel at home at AISD.
