The Austin ISD family includes a rich mix of people who are dedicated to public education. From classroom staff and those working behind the scenes, to volunteers who give our students the extra support they need.
David Matustik is one of the 1,500 volunteers that Austin Partners in Education brings to AISD every year.
Matustik is the deputy communications director for the city of Austin and has volunteered through APIE for seven years. Each week, he reads with second-graders at St. Elmo Elementary School and loves the connection that he's formed with students.
“We become, in a sense, another family to the children,” Matustik said.
Academics is just one part of preparing students for college, career and life. Focusing on the whole child, in part through community volunteers, gives AISD students the comprehensive support they need to achieve their best. To that end, AISD has a goal of linking 95 community service providers, including APIE, to campuses in 2016.
Thanks to everyone who embraces our volunteers for the betterment of our students' future. You make me #AISDproud.
