Last Friday, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn helped kick off the Austin vs. Bowie football game by leading the coin toss and cheering on the Maroons and Bulldogs.
It was an honor to welcome Sen. Cornyn to celebrate our students—especially knowing that athletics is about so much more than what happens on the field.
Participating in sports prepares students for success in the classroom and in life.
Austin ISD research shows that physical fitness is related to improved academic performance and attendance rates. Student-athletes also learn values like teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship that are integral to honing the soft skills needed for the workplace.
The environment fostered in athletics mirrors the district values of integrity, quality and a commitment to excellence.
Thanks to each and every one of you who nurtures great leaders through athletics and in the classroom.
