Department of Education Awards $2.5 Million Grant for Family Support Services

Beginning this fall, new services will be available to students and families at Lanier High School, Burnet Middle School and Cook and Wooldrige elementaries.

The support is made possible by a $2.5 million Department of Education grant awarded to Austin Voices for Education and Youth, a longtime partner of Austin ISD. Funds will be distributed over five years at $500,000 per year.

Lanier will house a new family resource center, and resource coordinators will be added to campus teams at Cook, Burnet, Lanier and Wooldridge. There is also funding for adult education classes.

The goal of the grant is to support families with services that will increase student attendance and academic success.
