News from Dr. Cruz: Teacher of the Year

Team AISD,

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Quevette Terrell, our district’s 2015 teacher of the year, accepted her award by thanking her mother for adopting her as an infant and instilling the values that make her a great teacher. Ms. Terrell, who teaches physical education at Webb Middle School, truly makes me #AISDproud!

Ms. Terrell received the award at Salute, our district’s celebration of educator excellence.  At this annual awards event, we honor educators who have been chosen by their peers as the best of the best. We recognized our newest cohort of National Board Certified Teachers, 104 first year Teachers of Promise, and the 122 Campus Teachers of the Year. From an outstanding group of finalists, these educators were selected for top awards:

•   Principal of the Year: Linda Webb, Garza High School
•   Assistant Principal of the Year: Karen Jones, Brentwood Elementary School
•   Counselor of the Year: Trisha Uhler, Anderson High School
•   Librarian of the Year: Shelby Counts, Burnet Middle School
•   Classified Staff of the Year: Nick Weismantel, Bowie High School

Thanks to Austin Partners in Education for co-sponsoring Salute, and to all the staff members, families and community partners who contributed to its success. It really was an evening to remember!
