Mccallum Hosts Grand Opening Of Central Texas’ First High School Broadcast Radio Station - Feb. 10

McCallum High School will host a grand opening Friday, Feb. 10 to celebrate the launch of its new radio station, MAC Radio, 1670 AM. The event will take place from 6 to 8:00 p.m. in the Main Hall at McCallum High School, 5600 Sunshine Dr.

MAC Radio is the first high school broadcast radio station in Central Texas. The grand opening will include live performances by students in McCallum’s songwriting class and a special appearance by Strongman Dennis Rogers, who has appeared on Regis, Oprah, the Late Show with David Letterman and the Tom Green Show. He’s also been featured on Discovery Channel specials such as The Science of Super Human Strength and Stan Lee’s show, Superhumans.

MAC Radio currently airs two student shows. The ZBF Morning Show with Zach Chistodoulides, Joseph Buckles and Forest Gloor airs from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The Damon and Avery at Lunch Show with Damon Meredith and Avery Callaway airs every day during B lunch. The station also broadcasts music from independent artists, as well as the McCallum High School Orchestra.  

Through a silent auction at the grand opening, the station will raise money to purchase an FM license and install a more powerful FM band transmitter. Items to be auctioned off include a custom-made guitar, donated by Ken Rogers, valued at $2,000, a $250 rental gift certificate from Texas Media Systems and a $100 gift certificate from Dart Bowl.
