Board President's Update, Dec. 5
Dear Austin ISD Community,
Finding the right superintendent for the unique needs of Austin ISD is the most important duty this school board will undertake. As such, we have committed to leaving no stone unturned to find the right person.
Ray and Associates Inc., the executive search firm guiding us through the process, worked tirelessly to advertise for and recruit candidates based on the profile developed with community input, resulting in 98 applicants. We interviewed the candidates, who were clearly qualified and able to do the job of superintendent of Austin ISD.
During subsequent meetings in the past two weeks, the board has had extensive discussions regarding the candidates, and has received significant community support for Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz.
Our consensus is to change the process to allow Dr. Cruz to discuss his interest in the superintendent position as well. The board will meet with Dr. Cruz in the coming days, and after doing so, will consider all possible candidates.
Because of this change, the public forum that had been tentatively scheduled for Dec. 9 is canceled.
To consider the interim superintendent requires that we modify our current search schedule and process. Because official board action was taken to approve the current timeline, action is needed to modify it. An item has been posted today for the board meeting on Dec. 8 to officially consider and take action on modifying the timeline.
Thank you for your continued involvement in this process. We welcome your thoughts and invite you to share them with the board via email or during the public comment portion of any regular board meeting.
Please visit the superintendent search website for updates to the timeline and to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information on the search for a new superintendent.
