Superintendent Candidates Decline to Continue Process

Saturday Forum to Feature Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz

Executive search firm Ray and Associates this morning informed Austin ISD trustees that two of the three top candidates for superintendent have declined to participate further in the search process.

With the candidates' withdrawal from consideration, Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz becomes the only remaining candidate for the position.

Austin ISD is not at liberty to release the names of the candidates who declined to continue the interview process.

A community forum scheduled for 10 a.m. this Saturday, Dec. 13, at Lanier High School will continue as planned, with Cruz as the only candidate.

During the forum, Cruz will have the opportunity to interact with the community, make comments and discuss district issues, and respond to questions from the community.

Cruz has served as interim since this spring, when former superintendent Meria Carstarphen left to lead Atlanta Public Schools.

During their regular board meeting Dec. 15, trustees will determine whether to name a sole finalist.
