TEA Releases List of Public Education Grant Schools

On Dec. 8, the Texas Education Agency released the list of schools identified under the Public Education Grant program for the 2012-13 school year. The TEA places schools on the list if 50 percent or more of their students failed any TAKS subject area in two of the preceding three years (2009, 2010 or 2011), or if the school was rated Academically Unacceptable under the state accountability system in (2009, 2010 or 2011). A parent of a student enrolled at any of the campuses listed may apply to attend a non-PEG campus within AISD, or another school district for the 2012-13 school year. Districts are required to follow the same protocols for allowing transfer requests.

The TEA includes ten AISD schools on its 2012-13 PEG list, 6 fewer than last year. Parents of students enrolled in schools will be notified of their transfer options by Feb. 1, 2012. Principals will be advised of their status on the PEG list and will receive the support necessary to meet the reporting requirements.
