Board Discusses Preliminary Facility Master Plan Scenarios

As a part of the Austin Independent School District’s on-going Facilities Master Plan (FMP) process, the Superintendent on Monday discussed several preliminary scenarios to the Board of Trustees, based on their previous requests, as well as feedback from parents and community members through numerous community meetings. The scenarios she discussed with potential implementation in the 2012-13 school year included:

  • Addressing North Central school overcrowding;
  • Adding four additional two-way dual language immersion programs;
  • Adopting new program designs to replace Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs; and
  • Contracting with IDEA to establish an in-district charter for college preparation program.

Two additional scenarios that would require additional investigation and further discussions with the affected school communities are a graduation pathways program and single-gender middle schools in the District 1 area.

The district will continue to discuss these preliminary scenarios at community meetings with parents and stakeholders through the fall. Please visit http://www.austinisd.org/fmp for meeting dates and materials. The Public Relations and Multicultural Office will continue to provide updates through the December 12th Board meeting, where the Board is scheduled to take action on the Annual Facility Recommendations.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees will be on Monday, November 21, 2011. To review complete board agendas please visit http://archive.austinisd.org/inside/board/
