AISD Celebrates 19th Annual Afterschool Showcase

Last week, students from across the district participated in the 19th Annual Austin ISD Afterschool Showcase at Kealing Middle School.

Students spent the evening performing on stage, sharing what they’ve learned throughout the year with each other through interactive exhibits, which included topics like STEM, the arts and health and fitness.

“Our teachers work hard all year to create engaging and creative learning activities for the youth in our programs,” ACE-Austin Coordinator Shirlene Justice said. “Our students work even harder to perfect a skill or understand a new concept. The showcase is when it all comes together, where we celebrate our successes and show the community how fun learning can be.”

Austin ISD afterschool programs aim to teach students new skills and concepts through hands-on, project-based informal learning during out-of-school time to reinforce and complement students’ regular academic programs. The programs are provided free-of-charge to students and their families.

The event was made possible by a partnership between ACE-Austin, Austin Prime Time and the Boys and Girls Club of the Capital Area, with funding provided by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers, The City of Austin and the Travis County Collaborative Afterschool Programs.
