AISD Launches Community Electronic Waste Recycling Program

Have a used computer or printer that you no longer need?

The Austin Independent School District will help you dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way, all while helping to put money back into our public schools.

In honor of Earth Day, Austin ISD is teaming up with ARC and Electronic Recycling and Trading (ERT) to collect, dispose of and recycle unwanted computers, laptops, monitors, cell phones and fax machines. Participating schools in the district will host outdoor drop-off stations Saturday, April 20, during which time members of the community may leave their unwanted electronics with adult and student volunteers.

“This program will not only help our community by reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfills, it will serve as an educational opportunity for our parent and student volunteers on the importance of being good stewards of the environment,” said Anita Anderson, procurement specialist for the district who is helping to organize the event.

ERT certifies that 100 percent of all materials collected will be recycled and not end up in a landfill. Because all electronics will be recycled, schools participating in the drop-off stations can earn a profit.

"ARC is excited to partner with ERT and AISD on this event. As a trusted provider of technology solutions and services for close to 30 years, we understand the importance of proper recycling of all electronic equipment,” said Ryan Grant, President of ARC. “Recycling and serving the community are at the core of our company, so we're delighted to work with AISD on this effort.”
