Middle School

The goals of a dual language program are for students to excel academically while becoming bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural. Our middle school programs offer students at least two content courses taught in Spanish each year, including Spanish for Spanish Speakers and a core content class (science, social studies, or math). The program is intended for students who participated in elementary dual language and for native Spanish speakers new to the district.

Features:

  • Includes a Spanish language/literature course and one Spanish core content (Social Studies, Math, and/or Science) each year.
  • An enhanced program provides an elective in Spanish as well. Dual Language Electives cannot take the place of Spanish Language/Literature or Spanish Core Content.
  • The Spanish Language/Literature courses provide students high school credit at 6th, 7th and 8th grades, as well as the opportunity to receive AP college credit in 8th grade.
  • The English Language Learners Team recommends that Spanish content courses be varied each year so that students are receiving academic Spanish in all content areas throughout their secondary education.
