Modernization Strategy for Facility Master Plan (FMP) Update

At its July and August 2016 meetings, the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee (FABPAC) developed a draft modernization strategy for incorporation into the Facility Master Plan update. To do this, they used feedback developed from:

  • Current and emerging national trends
  • Strategic Asset Valuation (SAV) sessions with district leadership
  • Educational visioning sessions with district administration/leadership and vertical teams
  • Interviews with department heads conducted through the Facility Condition and Educational Suitability Assessment processes
  • Feedback from Community Engagement Series no.1

Additionally, as part of this process, a survey was administered to the AISD educators to gain feedback on which modernization concepts that felt were most important for district schools. Listed below, is the original FABPAC recommendation; the top three results from the survey; and a revised strategy that incorporates the values of both the FABPAC and AISD’s educators.

  1. State-of-the-art technology in all schools.
  2. Flexible learning spaces in all schools.
  3. Community space:
    Wrap-around services to support the community, such as after-school programming, mentoring, adult education, or health care, should be incorporated within schools strategically distributed throughout the district [at least one per region (9), but no more than one per planning cluster (27)

  3. Community space:

    • Dedicated meeting space at all schools to support parent and community organizations. This space should be of similar size to a classroom, have an option for secure access, and have restroom availability.

    • Dedicated space to provide wrap-around services to support community needs, such as after-school programming, mentoring, adult education, or health care. The size and programming of this space is dependent on the needs of the surrounding community; and should be incorporated into schools strategically throughout the district, within nine (9) geographic regions at a minimum.
