Language Arts

Overview

The Austin ISD Language Arts Curriculum Department designs and shares engaging, authentic and accessible curriculum for a highly diverse student population. Our goal is to empower the faculty and staff at 130 campuses to provide all students with high-quality literacy instruction. We collaborate with the Multilingual Education Team, the departments of Special Education and Dyslexia/504, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to provide curriculum and resources to make learning accessible for all students.

The AISD Language Arts Team is dedicated to creating a community of students who see themselves as readers and writers. During a school day, we believe that all students should have the chance to:

  • Read text that interests them and teaches them something new
  • Write about what matters to them and makes them feel proud
  • Share ideas with confidence and ask questions without fear
  • Listen and learn from the different ideas of others

The language arts team collaborates with other district teams to ensure that these opportunities are available to all students and we meet the literacy needs of every student reader and writer.
