Meet Team AISD
You never know if you’ll like it until you fully become a teacher. Once you try it, you’ll see how much you love it!
WHAT I DO:
I teach Gateway to Technology, a Project Lead The Way Course. The course is designed to introduce engineering and technology topics to middle school kids in order to spark their interest for the high school PLTW courses and perhaps engineering or technology in college.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT WORKING AT AISD:
I like the kids and can relate to them because I see part of myself in them. I also like my fellow staff members and the administration here at Pearce. We are huge family where we all help one another, and that has made my transition into teaching very manageable.
THE MOST REWARDING THING ABOUT THE WORK I DO:
So far, the single most rewarding thing about my job is when I hear “ooooooohhhhh, I get it now Mr. Thomas!” from one of my students. That puts a smile on my face and in my heart.
WHAT I’D SAY TO A POTENTIAL CANDIDATE:
I would say the exact same thing a teacher who had switched careers said to me when I was substituting and contemplating becoming a teacher. “You never know if you’ll like it until you fully become a teacher. Once you try it, you’ll see how much you love it!”
LITTLE KNOWN FACT ABOUT ME:
A good friend tells me that I am the only man she knows you will start the day hunting and fishing and end it by baking a cake. I love gardening, making wine, cooking, camping, hunting, and fishing. I guess you could say I am well rounded.
WORDS I LIVE BY:
Practice makes permanent. I learned this saying from my high school algebra teacher. Nothing is perfect, but the more we practice anything, the more it will become a permanent part of ourselves.
MY 5 FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT AUSTIN:
- The weather-I love being outside
- All the restaurants-my wife and I love to try them
- The friendliness of the people
- The surrounding lakes-I love to fish
- The happenings-There’s always something going on in town
