Parent Engagement Support Office
We connect, engage, educate and support families and their students, and we coordinate campus-based Parent Support Specialists. The Parent Engagement Support Office (within the Department of Communications & Community Engagement) and its team, foster partnerships among families, schools and communities that create a sense of shared responsibility, accountability and shared leadership for students and schools, and for community success.
The Parent Support Engagement Office provides and coordinates workshops for parents and campus staff to assist in the development of their family Engagement teams/plans. The Parent Support Engagement Office provides AISD departments and organizations family-friendly consultation, logistics, outreach and planning for community engagement efforts and events to all AISD families in our 130 schools. The Parent Engagement Support Office establishes relationships with local and national non-profit organizations and service providers, serving as a conduit to the AISD community. With collaborative planning, outreach, coordination and guidance, the office maximizes the reach and efficacy of resources.
Family Resource Centers
The Parent Engagement Support Office coordinates partnerships with AISD Family Resource Centers located at select middle and high schools.
Parent Support Specialists
Our office also guides and supports Parent Support Specialists—also known as PSSs—who are based at 74 schools. This includes providing staff development, programming, human resources support and parent, family & community engagement coordination. PSSs are funded by the city of Austin, and are placed in Title I schools, which are schools with student populations from low-income families. Learn more about Parent Support Specialists.
Special Education—Family Support
The Families of Students in Special Education Team works in the Parent Engagement Support Office to support families of students receiving special education services. FASST hosts meetings and support events to field family concerns and link families to District and community resources.
