2015-2016 Creative Learning Initiative Annual Report
The Creative Learning Initiative (CLI) is a community-wide effort to bring creative learning and the arts to each and every student in Austin. Lead by MINDPOP, the City of Austin, and the Austin Independent School District (AISD), CLI designs systemic and sustainable programs that integrate creativity, creative teaching strategies, and the arts with classroom teaching, campus programming, and campus improvement. Evaluation findings suggest CLI implementation had a positive impact on the district, its teachers and the students it serves.
Creative Campus Profiles, 2015-2016
Research on creative learning shows that students attending arts-rich schools have higher levels of motivation and better academic and social success. Arts richness is measured in the Creative Campus profile reports, based on information gathered in the 2015-2016 Arts Inventory. The profile was developed and piloted in the Creative Learning Initiative (CLI) campuses over two years, but is relevant and now available for all AISD campuses. Standard Aggregate Reports
Standard Aggregate Reports (SAR) allow community-based service providers to access aggregate data (i.e., summary data for multiple individuals) about students participating in their programs. Using this system, service providers gain access to valuable information about the discipline, attendance, and academic achievement outcomes of the students they serve. At the same time, AISD can maintain compliance with federal and local regulations protecting the confidentially of individual-level student data while being responsive to agency data needs.
State Compensatory Education: 2014-2015
State Compensatory Education (SCE) is a supplemental program designed to eliminate disparities in (a) student performance on assessment instruments administered under chapter 39 of the Texas Education Code (1995, amended 2013), and (b) the rates of high school completion between students who are at risk of dropping out of school, as defined by Texas Education Code 29.081 (1995, amended 2013), and all other students. AISD 2015 Family Leaver Survey: 2014-2015 Leavers
To understand the most common reasons that students leave the Austin Independent School District (AISD), and identify where students go after they leave, the Department of Research and Evaluation conducted a survey in English and Spanish. For the purpose of the survey, leavers were defined as students who attended AISD during the 2014-2015 school year, but who were not enrolled at AISD in October of 2015.
Analysis of Performance Gaps in Austin Independent School District: 2012-2013 Through 2014-2015
This report is one of several that examines the data to investigate equity in AISD. It describes the performance gaps between and among student groups district-wide for reading, math, writing, disciplinary removals/placements, and graduation rates.
The Creative Learning Initiative Innovates Teaching and Learning: Impact Highlights of the 2014–2015 School Year
The Creative Learning Initiative (CLI), a collective impact partnership among the Austin Independent School District (AISD), the city of Austin, and MINDPOP (an arts partnership dedicated to expanding creative learning in Austin and representing over 50 arts and cultural agencies), created arts-rich schools at a rate that exceeded the benchmark goal. Maps of Pearce and Garcia Middle School Attendance Zones Fall 2012 Telephone Survey
These maps were developed to supplement findings from the Fall 2012 Pearce and Garcia Middle Schools phone survey. The maps show the distribution and density of student households in the two attendance zones, the distribution of responses to the survey questions, as well as the proportion of ethnicities in the surveyed area.
Fine Arts Enrollment and Academic Outcomes: 2006-2007 6th Grade cohort study
For the 2006–2007 At-Risk 6th-grade cohort, more fine arts enrollment in middle school was correlated with more positive high school outcomes for students in the following areas: academic persistence (i.e., graduating, completing the GED, or maintaining enrollment beyond their expected graduation date), attendance, standardized achievement tests in math and reading, and discipline.
Any Given Child Creative Learning Initiative: Results From the November 2013 Creative Learning Initiative Survey
The November 2013 Creative Learning Initiative Survey was designed to gather participants’ feedback about the arts-based instruction workshop that took place in November, the facilitator(s) of that workshop, the participants’ implementation of the arts-based instruction, and the impact of the workshop on their students and their own professional growth.
