Student Performance

  • Graduation rates have reached an all-time high of 86.3 percent. 
  • AISD has 183 students who earned recognition for outstanding academic performance from the U.S. Presidential Scholars, National Merit Finalists, National Merit Semifinalists, National Merit Commended scholars and College Board National Hispanic Scholars programs. Fourteen students earned recognition in more than one program.
  • AISD students continue to outperform their peers in large urban school districts on the Nation's Report Card, ranking among the top in both math and reading. The National Assessment of Educational Progress reports AISD students ranked second in fourth and eighth grade math as well as eighth grade reading. In fourth grade reading, AISD students ranked fifth among 21 districts participating in a Trial Urban District Assessment.

School Performance

  • The Texas Education Agency recognized AISD for exceeding targets on all accountability ratingsand 111 ISD schools for earning the highest rating possible on the state's accountability system.
  • The TEA awarded 220 distinction designations for outstanding performance to 73 AISD schools.
  • Eight AISD campuses earned every TEA distinction designation possible: Anderson High School, the Liberal Arts and Science Academy and the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders at the high school level, and Blazier, Graham, Hart, Lee and Zavala at the elementary school level.
  • U.S. News and World Report ranks six AISD high schools among the best in the nation: Anderson, Austin, Bowie and McCallum high schools, as well as the Liberal Arts and Science Academy and the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.
  • In 2014, Newsweek ranked AISD’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy the No. 1 high school in Texas and No. 8 in the nation.

Whole Child Every Child

  • AISD is the largest school district in the nation to earn the Anti-Defamation League’s “No Place for Hate” designation. 
  • AISD is a national leader in social and emotional learning. SEL is offered at all AISD campuses.
  • AISD is part of the White House's My Brother's Keeper initiative.
  • AISD embraces the Community School approach, which recognizes that all children have the potential to meet high expectations in the right environment and that the entire community has the responsibility to provide that environment for all children. 
  • AISD has eight Family Resource Centers throughout Austin at Burnet, Dobie, Martin, Mendez and Webb middle schools, Lanier High School and LBJ and Reagan early college high schools. The Webb center inludes the primary school.
  • AISD is part of PBS' American Graduate initiative, which is supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The grant’s purpose is to raise awareness in Central Texas about the true costs of our youth leaving school before graduation, as well as efforts conducted in our region to reduce dropout rates.

Teaching Excellence

  • AISD has 229 National Board Certified Teachers—more than any school district in Texas. AISD is also recognized as one of the top 20 districts in the nation for the total number of new National Board Certified Teachers.

Sound Financial Management

  • AISD is projected to have the lowest overall property tax rate among Austin-area school districts for the 2016-17 fiscal year.
  • AISD maintains among the highest ratings a Texas public school can earn from national agencies:
      • Aaa debt rating from Moody’s Investors Service
      • AA+ from Standard & Poor’s and
      • AA+ from Fitch Ratings.
  • The district's financial team has earned state and national recognitions for transparency and achievement:
      • 2014 School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) rating of superior achievement for the 12th consecutive year
      • the Leadership Circle Award for budget transparency from Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for the sixth consecutive year
      • the Government Finance Officers Association's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 12 years in a row and the certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for five years in a row and
      • the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and issuance of its school system budget and Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International for the fifth year in a row.
  • AISD is the top-ranked school district in the United States for the total amount of renewable energy purchased.
