Approval to Move Forward with Establishing a Design Framework, Process and Structure to Provide a Cohort of Campuses (similar to an Innovation Zone) with Greater Flexibility and Autonomy over Campus Resources in Response to FY2014 Budget Parameter #12, Related to Possible Implementation of a Weighted Student Formula (WSF) Funding System Targeted to Begin in the 2014-15 School Year

During the past seven months, with direction from the Board of Trustees, the administration has taken steps to explore alternatives to the current method of allocating resources to AISD's campuses. In response to board guidance at the June 3 meeting, the administration recommended that the district maintain its current staffing model, but sought approval to move forward with a design framework that would offer more flexibility and autonomy in budgeting to campuses that volunteer to be part of a cohort, similar to "Innovation Zones" in Denver and New York City.

By a vote of 8-1, the board adopted the following motion by Trustee Jayme Mathias: "Approve moving forward with community engagement that might lead to establishing a design framework, process and structure to provide a cohort of campuses with greater flexibility and autonomy over campus resources targeted to begin in the 2015-16 school year, or before if deemed appropriate by the Board of Trustees."
