Board Briefs: Regular Board Meeting (Aug. 27)
The Board of Trustees recognized Anderson High School’s theatre department, under the direction of Bobby Malone and Katherine Wilson, for placing 4th in the 2012-13 UIL One Act Play State Meet for their performance of Ken Ludwig's comedy, “Moon Over Buffalo.”
Opening of School Report
Superintendent Meria Carstarphen described events leading up to and including the first days of the 2013-14 school year, including Administrator’s Institute, New Teacher Induction, the Back-to-school Bash, All-staff Convocation, and the first two days of school. On the first day of school, the district welcomed more than 77,000 students. The superintendent’s first two days of school visits are described on superintendent’s blog at www.austinisd.org.
Adoption of FY2014 Recommended Budget
The board unanimously adopted a budget for FY2014 of $968,759,979 for revenues and other sources and $996,748,358 for expenditures and other uses. It will continue to support the three percent salary adjustment, which was pensionable, provided last year to all regular and full-time employees. It also includes funding to cover another non-recurring adjustment to provide the equivalent of a 1.5 percent increase, to be paid in two lump sums, to all regular full- and part-time employees. This 1.5 percent adjustment will not be pensionable.
M&O and I&S Tax Rates
Tax rates will be unchanged: For Maintenance and Operations, the tax rate will continue to be $1.079 per $100 of assessed valuation for the 2013 tax year. For Interest and Sinking, the tax rate will continue to be $.0163 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation for the 2013 tax year.
