Ready to Read: Winn Elementary Dedicates New Library
Winn Elementary School is celebrating the completion of its new $3.3 million library. The 5,130-square-foot addition--which was completed in April--was made possible by the 2013 bond.
What: A library dedication, with light refreshments and music by the Austin Jazz Workshop.
When: 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 12
Where: Winn Elementary School, 3500 Susquehanna Lane
Background: The library allows students to access educational literary and audio visual information. The space features an expansive reading room with natural light and brightly colored accent walls. A teacher's workroom was added along with a counselor's suite and parent/volunteer support areas. The corridors were designed with colorful floor tile patterns that not only create interest but also improve wayfinding.
The building includes fire and security alarm systems, a staff work area, storage area and restroom. An elevator was added to the space to connect the second-floor classrooms in the south wing. Braun and Butler Construction was the construction manager for the project and worked with Architecture Plus to design the space.
