MEDIA ADVISORY: ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’: Blackshear Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday During Read Across America

District administrators and others to read Seuss favorites in classrooms

Blackshear Elementary School is celebrating Read Across America, a nationwide day of reading, with administrators and community leaders reading Dr. Seuss classics in all its classrooms.

The National Education Association’s Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2. For a list of participants, please see below.

What: Classroom visits from blue-haired Things 1–45 and district administrators reading classic Dr. Seuss stories to students.

When: 8 a.m.–2:30 p.m. March 2

Where: Blackshear Elementary School, 1712 E. 11th St.

Who: Paul Cruz, superintendent; Eric Mendez, AISD Police Department chief; Jacquie Porter, AISD early childhood supervisor; Elizabeth Polk, AISD director of library media services; Anita Uphaus, former AISD early childhood supervisor; Sherri Raven, AISD director of Social and Emotional Learning; Ramon Vega, AISD special education instructional coordinator; Peter Gonzales and Yvette Cardenas, AISD elementary coordinators for English language learners; Robin Lowe, Kealing Middle School principal; Christine Caudle and Margot Perez, Tarrytown United Methodist Church reading buddies; Patrick Patterson, assistant vice principal of the Longhorn Center for School Partnerships; Terrany Johnson, award-winning music producer and artist advocate; Author Misha Maynerick Blaise; Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, playwright and UT professor; Jeff Wilson, Huston-Tillotson professor; Brian Caudle, structural engineer for Seuss Landing; and various representatives from the city of Austin’s Music & Entertainment Division.
