Austin High School Earns UIL State Championship, Makes History
Austin, TX—Austin Independent School District's Austin High School made history during the recent University Interscholastic League One-Act Play State competition by securing the state championship for the second year in a row. The Red Dragon Players theatre troupe have won the One-Act Play state championship in 2012, 2011 and 2009.
The troupe's production of King O' the Moon earned each of the actors an award during the district, area, region and state competitions. Felipe Ramirez, Austin High school student, earned the prestigious honor of best actor during the state competition.
"We are very proud our students' phenomenal accomplishment, which has never been achieved before in the 86-year history of the UIL," Lucio Calzada, Austin High School principal, said. "With three championships in four years, it is fair to say that the theatre department at Austin High commands the stage in Texas."
