National College Fair Held in Austin April 9; AISD Students Encouraged to Attend

One of the largest college fairs in the nation will be held in Austin Tuesday, April 9, and students in the Austin Independent School District are encouraged to attend to learn about their college options.

The Austin National College Fair is free, open to the public and will provide valuable resources for students and parents attempting to navigate the college-admission process.

AISD students attending the fair will learn about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings, and campus environment, as well as other information pertinent to the college-selection process. Students will also be able to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a range of national and international, public and private and two-year and four-year colleges and universities.

“The college admission process can be tricky and intimidating to navigate, but this fair will equip AISD students and their families with the knowledge, resources and know-how to maneuver through it,” said Patsy Brady, a program specialist for the district’s Learning Support Services. “The ultimate goal of having our students attend is that it will not only make the process smooth, but it will continue to inspire their pursuit of higher education and better prepare them for what to expect when they arrive on college campuses."

Brady said many AISD counselors are affiliated with National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), which sponsors the event. The fair is hosted by the Texas for College Admission Counseling.

The National College Fair program is now in its 41st year and annually serves more than 675,000 students and families nationwide. In Central Texas, approximately 5,000 students are expected to attend the April 9 fair.
