LASA to Host Talk on Teen Self Esteem and Healthy Eating - Nov. 29

The AISD Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) High School will host "Support Self Esteem, Healthy Eating, and Positive Image at Home,” a presentation by counselor Valerie Savage, C.P.A., M.A., LPC-Intern, Tues., Nov. 29 at 6:00 p.m. at Carver Library, 1161 Angelina. The event, LASA’s second parenting program of the year, is free and open to the public.

Savage will discuss holiday eating and stress, the common signs of serious eating disorders, and ways to take the struggle out of family dinners, drawing from the book “I’m, Like, SO Fat!”: Helping Your Teen Make Healthy Choices about Eating and Exercise in a Weight-Obsessed World by Dianne Neumark-Sztainer.

Savage is founder of For Women's Sake, a coaching and counseling service for professional women; a program therapist at Cedar Springs Austin Eating Disorder Treatment Center; and a member of the Austin Eating Disorder Specialists. Her counseling focus is on women and family issues, including stress/anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and marital relations. Savage holds an M.A. in counseling from St. Edward's University.
