Akins HS Students Fight Hunger in "Canstruction" Competition
Akins High School students won big in a Central Texas competition and in the process helped fight against hunger.
Akins students participated in the Capital Area Food Bank “Canstruction” competition last month, and won Best High School Entry for a structure they built out of canned food that spells out “Keep Austin Fed.”
Canstruction is using one can of food as a catalyst for change.
Since 1992, Canstruction has contributed more than 17.5 million pounds of food to community food banks demonstrating that we can win the fight against hunger.
Competing teams, led by local architects, engineers and builders showcase their talents by designing and building giant sculptures made entirely of canned foods.
At the close of the canstruction exhibition, all of the food used in the structures is donated to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
The event was held at Barton Creek Mall.
