 Our Mission

The Austin ISD Science Curriculum Department works to design and disseminate engaging, authentic, and accessible science curriculum for a highly diverse student population. Our goal is not to factory-assemble scientists, but rather to craft science citizens who are knowledgeable and considerate of the processes that affect our world. To that end, we promote classroom and outdoor investigations to instill critical thinking and awareness, and integrate technology to promote information and media literacy.

2015 Summer Science Institute:
Professional Development for the Whole Teacher

We had so much fun the first time around that we decided to do it again. The Institute is designed to help promote effective teaching & learning in science classrooms. There are opportunities for teachers at all levels to develop new skills, brush up on content, learn about resources, & collaborate with other educators - all with the goal of making science fun & engaging for students. Children are born observers & experimenters who love to ask, “why?” Let's learn how to nurture the scientist found inside all of our students!

This year, we are honored & excited to have St. Edward's University host the Summer Science Institute. State of the art science buildings on a beautiful hilltop will provide a perfect setting for the Institute. Our partnership with St. Edward's is one example of the professional collaboration that we wish to promote in AISD. In this spirit, our presenters & participants represent AISD campuses, higher education, non-profit organizations, & businesses & include student teachers from local universities & teachers from surrounding districts.
