Teacher Leadership Development Program
2008-2009 Program Description

The mission of the Teacher Leadership Development Program is to foster the leadership skills of participants so that they can serve as campus leaders in curriculum reform, instructional improvement, and meaningful school change.

Individual Year Long Project-Reflective Practices

During September through October, Teacher Leaders will

  • gather and analyze campus data regarding student needs
    • survey campus personnel regarding perceived needs
    • interview principal regarding appropriate plans for campus in alignment with identified needs
    • identify campus study group members, ie,
      • all faculty members
      • cohort, such as: primary teachers
      • vertical team members related to specific content area
    • identify format of campus study, ie,
      • book study
      • lesson study
      • study of student work
    • submit plan for approval to principal and Teacher Leader Facilitator.

During April through May

  • implement plan for the entire school year

Group Project

As a group, Teacher Leaders will

  • incorporate best practices of the Principles of Learning in a study of Leadership Practices
  • present the study to other Teacher Leaders in a format that aligns with best practices of professional development.
  • align study content with district curriculum documents.

Book Studies

As a group, Teacher Leaders will

  • participate in several book studies regarding leadership
  • Reflect on their experiences and make plans for incorporating the new knowledge into their practice
