During the 2002-2003 academic year, Professional Development initiated the "Teachers of Promise" recognition program for novice teachers (zero years experience) who were demonstrating "promising practice" in their classrooms. We ask campus principals/and or Lead Mentor Contacts to nominate a novice teacher who is demonstrating an overall grasp of the components of good teaching.

What are the criteria for "promising practice?"

Any teacher in her/his first year of teaching who is demonstrating an overall grasp of the components of good teaching is eligible. If a teacher was hired after the recognition process last year - 3 March 2009 - he/she can be considered by the principal as this year's designee. The criteria used in making the determination can be pulled from the PDAS instrument and/or the Texas Beginning Educator Support System (TxBESS) framework.

How will the novice teacher be acknowledged?

• Posting of name and group photo on website
• Recognition in AISD e-news, Chalkboard, and press release
• Reception with Dr. Carstarphen, Board of Trustees, Principals, LMTCs/BLMTCs, mentors, and family, Thursday, April 8th, 5:00-6:30, DELCO Center
• Certificate from the Superintendent
• "Teacher of Promise" pin
• $50 transferred to the campus general fund for the Teacher of Promise to order resources for their classroom
