New Teacher District Level Support
Before the Induction Year Begins New Teacher Academy Five days of professional development, differentiated for the novice and veteran teacher, are provided prior to the beginning of school. Topics addressed include AISD curriculum, classroom management, PDAS (Professional Development and Appraisal System) if needed, as well as an introduction to district initiatives. New Teacher Handbooks Elementary and secondary handbooks serve as valuable references for topics such as legal requirements, district and classroom procedures, and resource people and materials. Aligned and Clearly Articulated Curriculum AISD Instructional Planning Guides for the core content areas define what to teach, offer effective teaching strategies, and outline pacing of the content. During and Beyond the Induction Year On-going Professional Development District-defined standards of what teachers should know and be able to do are communicated through a sequence of professional development opportunities. Developing knowledge of content, pedagogy, and assessment are emphasized. Other Resources District Staff from areas or departments such as advanced academic services, bilingual education, curriculum and instruction, guidance and counseling, professional development, and special education, serve as additional resources for implementing the curriculum and meeting the needs of every student. |
