Before the Induction Year Begins

Campus Orientation

New teachers attend campus orientation led by the campus principal and instructional team. Activities this day may include touring of the campus, meeting mentor teachers, becoming familiar with campus resources and procedures, and planning for the first weeks of school.

During and Beyond the Induction Year

Mentor Teacher

Veteran Teachers are paired with novice teachers and provide support thorugh model lesons, assistance with lesson planning and classroom management, and observation/formative feedback of lessons.

Teacher Buddy

Veteran teachers who are new to the district are paired with experienced teachers who help new teachers understand district and campus culture.

New Teacher Support Group

Research on teacher retention reflects that peer support is vital to success. Campus principals coordinate Lead Mentor Contact-led support groups. Book studies are key ways that collaborate learning around curriculum and teaching occurs.

Grade Level Team/Content Area Team

Teachers at the same grade level or who teach the same content area provide support in many of the same ways a mentor teacher or instructional coach does.

Other Support

Ongoing support is available through various AISD venues both on campus and through central office departments.
