Welcome to AISD’s STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) homepage which provides valuable information about the new STAAR program that will replace TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills), during the spring of 2012. STAAR is a new, mandated testing program put in place by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and will be administered throughout the state. As the TEA continues to refine the program, we will provide updates and added resources to this site.

Important Update:
Commissioner of Education Robert Scott announced that is he deferring implementation of the requirement to convert a student's score on the STAAR end-of-course examinations to account for 15 percent the student's final grade in the corresponsing course. Click here for his full statement.
Austin Independent School District Superintendent Meria Carstarphen released the following statement today regarding the commissioner's announcement:
"We welcome the news and flexibility provided by the commissioner. The deferral of this requirement gives our Board of Trustees the ability to decide whether end-of-course examinations will affect student’s course grades for this school year. The board is scheduled to discuss this topic at Monday’s work session, with possible action Feb. 27.
“During this initial year for the new state assessments, we are grateful because this change will relieve some of the pressures on our students. However, students will still be required to pass these tests in order to graduate.
“The district will communicate directly with parents after Monday’s work session with the board.”
