today we watched everyones footage and talked about the shots. it seems that everyone needed further understanding about a tracking shot and an extreme close-up. Remeber, in a tracking shot, the cam and operator move together, versus a tracking pan, where the camera follows somebody crossing the street. an ECU takes up the entire screen. just an eye or just a nose. a closeup on a face is just a closeup.

yay! we finally start using the cameras. take a handout and a camera. get in groups of 5 or 6. everyone take turns getting the shots that are on the handout. you only have today to do this. when done, put your tape in the new tape holder.

today we watched some short films to illustrate the fact that three act structure is much more compressed in a short film but is still always there. the first act could be as short as 10 seconds. same with the third. usually a minute on a 5 minute short. You really have to start as late as possible on a short film. Different classes watched different shorts depending on time
