No, you have to be enrolled in an IB class to take the exam. All IB courses have internal assessments that must be completed as part of the program. These internal projects include English and foreign language orals, computer science dossiers, math papers, science projects, etc. You must be in the class to complete the work for these internal assessments.

Check out The IB Learner Profile, a pdf found on the Classroom Handouts page of this site. This booklet from IB explains the characteristics of the IB student. Read page 5 of the booklet (page 11 of the PDF) for what the IB student strives to be!
3. How do I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity?

Here's the skinny on Habitat for Humanity:
Go to austinhabitat.org
Click on Volunteer (upper left of screen)
Click on Individuals and then complete the New Registration and Orientation online
Print out and fill out the Liability Waiver (which is good for the current calendar year)
Check out the Construction Calendar (which is updated every Tuesday)
Go to the construction site on the date you choose and build a house!
The site manager can sign your CAS form. There must be an adult present for every 5 students, so if 5 or more of you want to go together, we need to get an adult to go as well. If a large group of you want to go on a specific date - then we need to contact Habitat and let them know you're coming...otherwise someone might not get lunch.
That's it! If you have any questions, stop by to see Mrs. Szabo.
4. How do I write up my CAS hours?

The CAS Guide can be found on the Handouts page of this web site.
Basically, you need to let me know what activity you are planning on doing for CAS. I would like you to maintain a log of when you do the activity. This log can be on an Excel spreadsheet, a Word document, a spiral notebook....your choice.
You need to reflect on your CAS activity. This reflection can be done in a variety of ways. You can tell me about your activity through a journal, a scrapbook, a video, a blog…your choice.
This reflection should take into consideration the 8 goals found on the CAS Individual Student Completion Form found in the CAS Guide (see the Handouts page of this web site). You do not need to meet ALL of these goals in EVERY activity – but these 8 goals must be met by April of your senior year.
I would also like proof of the activity. Proof can also vary – a certificate, a t-shirt, photos, a photo of you in your t-shirt, anything that shows you were a part of this activity.
You can email me your CAS information or drop it off. You will also be able to orally reflect on your CAS activities during our CAShares with your fellow IBers. (You can’t count on reflecting on ALL your CAS during CAShare – you will have to complete some other form of reflection as well.)

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
