Nutrition, Fundraising, and Vending Policy

Elementary:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students at any time during the school day. Including using food as a reward, unless documented in a students IEP. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy.

Middle School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students anywhere on campus during meal serving times. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a ' fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy. Vending machines must be turned off during meal times.

High School:
Campuses may not allow food or beverages to be provided to students during meal times where meals are served or consumed. Campuses are not allowed to sell food and/or beverages as a fund-raiser during the school day unless it's during one of the three exempted days allowed under the Texas School Nutrition Policy. Vending machines located in areas where reimbursable meals are served and/or consumed, must be turned off during meal periods.


Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV's) and Candy

Elementary:
Campuses may not distribute, provide access, or give students FMNV's or candy on campus during the school day.

Middle school:
Campuses may not distribute, provide access, or give students FMNV's anywhere on campus during the school day.
Campuses may not distribute, provide access, or give students access to candy until after the end of the last lunch period.

High school:
Campuses may not distribute, provide access, or give students FMNV's anywhere on campus during the school day.
Campuses may not distribute, provide access, or give students food or beverages during meal periods in areas where reimbursable meals are served and/or consumed.

All campuses:
Campuses may choose 3 events in which students may consume food and/or beverages (ie; pizza party, popcorn party, food fund-raiser, track and field, etc.) with the exception of FMNV's. These events may not be held in the cafeteria or areas where meals are consumed during meal times and may not prohibit students access to school meals. This does not apply to food items brought from home for the sole consumption by the student.


Fund-Raising and Vending Machines:

Campuses may not sell food or beverages for any fund-raising activity during the school day, except during one of the three exemption days. These food sales may not be held in the cafeteria or areas where meals are consumed during meal times and may not prohibit students access to school meals. Parents may bring items to celebrate their child's birthday; however, they cannot be provided to students in the cafeteria during meal serving times. A campus may develop additional guidelines concerning birthday celebrations, such as number of celebrations per month and certain time to celebrate, so as not to interfere with instructional time.

Middle School and High School Vending Guidelines

Vending machines in middle school and high school will only be stocked with healthy and healthier items. All FMNV's and candy (including chocolate and pastry items) are prohibited from any vending machines on any AISD campus. Vending machines will only be stocked with items that are "healthiest and healthier" on the Accent Foods vending product list.
