Metz Elementary Hosts Take a Veteran to School Day Friday
November 5, 2009 - HISTORY™ and Time Warner Cable are partnering on the third annual Take a Veteran to School Day outreach initiative, which links veterans of all ages with young people in schools and communities across America. At 7:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, a group of veterans will be welcomed to Metz Elementary School, located at 84 Robert T. Martinez Jr. Street.
Following breakfast sponsored by Time Warner Cable, the veterans will be recognized in a school-wide assembly. Each veteran will then be assigned to individual classrooms to share oral histories, pictures and memorabilia of their time serving in the military. Students will be able to interview their guest veterans while hearing first-hand stories from men and women who served in active duty. This year’s honored veterans will include Capt. James Crabtree, retired serviceman Al Banzer, Master Sgt. Joe Gamez, Staff Sgt. Marvin Barr, and American Legion Post 76 Commander Cyndi Miller.
Time Warner Cable will sponsor co-branded T-shirts and bracelets to share with Metz Elementary students and faculty. HISTORY™ will also provide curriculum-based educational materials, as well as a Veterans Day video produced with the US Department of Education. [ Go Back ] |
