Purpose of Anniversary Celebration

1. To celebrate a significant milestone in the history of the District on a district wide and citywide basis.
2. To increase community knowledge of and appreciation for AISD's contributions to the history, development, and vitality of Austin.
3. To offer curricular opportunities that increase students' awareness of and knowledge about the history of their schools and of their contributions to our city.
4. To provide scholarships as a legacy for future students to build on the exceptional educational foundation acquired at AISD.

Funding for this initiative will be provided by outside sources secured through an aggressive fund-raising campaign. The yearlong, multifaceted 125th anniversary celebration kicked off with a Scholarship Hall of Fame Gala in August, followed by a parade in September, a Teacher Art Show in November. African American Heritage event in February, a Student Art Show in March, the Documentary Premiere in May, and the grand finale, the presentation of the Scholarships Winners for each of the high schools in May.

The AISD 125th Steering Committee of leaders from the public and private sector has created many opportunities for you to take part in these events, not only by attending them, but also by sponsoring the celebration in some way. AISD needs your support to truly honor important leaders within the schools and community, recognize the history of the district and spotlight a bright future for Austin's youth. There are several different levels at which you can sponsor, as well as opportunities to sponsor only the events you wish to support. A portion of all sponsorships, no matter the level, will go toward student scholarships. Our goal is to establish a 125th scholarship at each of the twelve high schools.

As tri-chairs of the Steering Committee each of us is a loyal AISD supporter. Working with us are staff from the AISD Office of Planning and Community Relations. Other citizens and District staff have also joined the Celebration's Steering Committee and are responsible for components such as fund-raising, public awareness, school outreach and special events.
