Texas Teaching Fellows (TTF)

Texas Teaching Fellows (TTF) is a year-long alternative certification program aimed at preparing goal-oriented professionals to become teachers. An intensive training with a student-teaching component, along with an experienced faculty and research-based curriculum, ensures that our Fellows are ready to enter the classroom and to help their students achieve. To meet the state's needs, TTF is focused on recruiting talented individuals to teach in critical shortage areas. To apply, please visit www.texasteachingfellows.org.

Participants in Texas Teaching Fellows receive the following benefits:

  • Intensive summer training Institute. TTF's training includes a student teaching component, during which Fellows receive hands-on training and coaching on effective teaching strategies.
  • Streamlined certification program. Following the summer training Institute, Fellows are eligible to begin teaching full-time in the fall. During the first year in the classroom, Fellows participate in a comprehensive professional development program and become eligible for standard teacher certification in as little as one year.
  • Timely and relevant professional development. Fellows participate in a 50-hour professional development program focused on building their teaching skills in their content area.
  • Support network. TTF offers the opportunity for Fellows to forge connections with peers, faculty, staff, and district personnel. This support network is cited by Fellows as one of the most helpful resources for them as new teachers.
  • Assistance in securing a teaching position. 99% of 2007 Fellows were successful in securing a teaching position this fall. Partnerships with local school districts help ensure that Fellows get hired.

To be eligible for the Texas Teaching Fellows program, a bachelor's degree is required but education coursework is not.
