The Austin School District Board of Trustees voted to approve Blue Cross Blue Shield to provide the new employee health insurance plan for employees. Full cost coverage for employees will also continue.

The Joint Insurance Committee, made up of members from Education Austin, the Austin Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE), the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) and the Austin Association of Public School Administrators (AAPSA), as well as a Health Insurance Expert Task Force recommended this plan as the best district selection.

Some of the key points to remember about the new plan are as follows:

• BlueCross BlueShield will continue as the AISD health insurance provider
• Instead of an HMO plan, employees will choose among three PPO plans, including an option with a Health Savings Account
• PPO plans offer the opportunity to see more doctors - and see them directly without a referral
• Employees will see more affordable premiums for family health insurance plans

Please keep AISD up to date with your current address. Look for your information packet mailed to your home address in mid-June.
