Job Title: Partners in Reading (PIR) - Program Coordinator
FLSA Status: Exempt Full Time

SUMMARY
Partners in Reading is a 2-year-old reading program for second graders in AISD, run by Austin Partners in Education. This position's primary purpose is to coordinate volunteer recruitment, program development, implementation, and support of our elementary school reading program called Partners in Reading. PIR is focused on promoting reading fluency in second grade. This person will also identify and implement best practices and recruit teachers and schools for expansion.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of elementary reading resources, materials, and teaching theory
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Ability to work with others as a member of a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Ability to mass communicate and disseminate information electronically
  • Interpersonal skills, especially in the area of creating and fostering effective relationships with schools and volunteers
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment a plus
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications, and demonstrated ability to make effective presentations
  • Interest in working with students from high-need communities
  • Ability to manage large amounts of database information; excellent attention to details
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and maintain records
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Enthusiasm for providing all students with high-quality educational experiences

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate approximately 100 volunteers for the Partners in Reading volunteer program, which includes recruitment, placement, support, and follow up.
  • Develop plans to focus scope of curriculum for 08-09 school year and explore program expansion
  • Coordinate with teachers and district administrators to align with Austin ISD goals
  • Manage the program, which includes collaborating with teachers and volunteers to make sure issues are resolved, add volunteers as needed when there is attrition, visit classrooms to observe the program
  • Plan training and recognition events for volunteers and teachers
  • Maintain an up-to-date project plan, including regular updates to supervisor
  • Collect evaluation data and work with evaluation consultant as needed
  • Implement program improvements as determined by evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience. Teaching experience a plus.

LANGUAGE ABILITY
Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of volunteers and teachers. Bilingual Spanish speaker a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Word processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, presentation
