Program Coordinator for Reading Program

Are you interested in helping second grade students become more fluent and confident readers by connecting them with caring community members?

A Partners in Reading/Compaņeros en Lectura Program Coordinator is needed to manage volunteer recruitment, communication, and program implementation in support of community volunteers and teachers. We're looking for a flexible, outgoing and creative person who cares strongly about education, reading, and volunteering. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working with volunteers or experience working in an educational setting.
  • Fluency in Spanish (successful applicants will be able to read and write in Spanish).
  • Demonstrated ability to make effective presentations
  • Ability to create and foster effective relationships with schools and volunteers
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications.
  • Experience working with people from underserved communities
  • Ability to work with others as a member of a team in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to manage large amounts of database information; excellent organizational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Demonstrated enjoyment of reading
  • Enthusiasm for providing all students with high-quality educational experiences

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Establish relationships with corporate/community partners as well as parent volunteers, and manage communication related to volunteer recruitment and retention in the Partner in Reading/Compañeros en Lectura program.
  • Coordinate approximately 100 volunteers, which includes training, placement, support, and recognition.
  • Coordinate the program in approximately 15-20 classrooms, which includes collaborating with teachers and volunteers and resolving any conflicts.
  • Regularly visit schools to monitor and support program (reliable transportation required).
  • Assist with communication related to program expansion.
  • Assist in planning events for volunteers, including initial and ongoing trainings and appreciation/networking events during the school year.
  • Implement program improvements as determined by evaluation.
