Election Procedures

The Board of Trustees is comprised of community members who are elected to serve four year terms. On a rotating basis, Board seats are filled during biannual elections held on the second Saturday in May. Trustees provide public service to the Austin community without financial compensation. Candidates to the Board of Trustees must conform to the eligibility requirements of the Texas Election Code. The application, forms, and instructions are also available online from the Secretary of State and State Ethics Commission websites.

Recommended deadline for Board to order the election February 22, 2010
**deadline for candidates to file, last day to order election March 8, 2010 - 5 p.m.
First Day voters may Apply for Ballot by Mail March 9, 2010
Drawing for place on ballot March 10, 2010 - 12:00 noon
Deadline to withdraw from election and not have name on the ballot March 16, 2010 - 5:00 p.m.
Board Candidate Orientation March 24, 2010 - 6:30-8:00 p.m.
First Campaign Finance Report due for opposed candidates (covers the day the Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate form is filed through the 40th day before the election) April 8, 2010
Early voting period April 26 - May 4, 2010
Second Campaign Finance Report due for opposed candidates (covers 39th through 10th day before the election) April 30, 2010
ELECTION DAY May 8, 2010
Period to canvass election returns May 17 - May 19, 2010
Campaign Finance Report due (covers January 1 - June 30) July 15, 2010
